Getting Sweeter by the minute
This sweet dog abandoned in Memorial Park a week ago is doing great. He has continued to maintain his kind, calm demeanor and enjoys people and pets. He prefers the company of adult dogs instead of puppies as that kind of play zaps his energy a bit. We think he needs to be with an adult that is home most of the time to give him lots of hugs and pats. We need to find the best home for him....he deserves it. If you know of anyone that might be interested in a true companion, email us at: rescuemehouston@gmail.com

Found Sweet Abandoned Male Dog in Memorial Park
This kind male mix breed sweet boy was discovered by woman walking her dogs in Memorial Park (on the North side of the park where the bike trails are.) He was found on Saturday 08/22. He had apparently been living under a footbridge and was exhausted and thirsty. He was wearing a flea collar and a light green nylon collar with no tags. He is in tact and appears to be over five years old. He sits on command and loves attention and pats. Signs were put out in the are he was found however, no one has responded. We need to find this sweet boy's owner or find someone or a rescue group that can take him in. Please call Karen at 713.855.6291 if you have any ideas about how to re-home this dog. Again, he is very kind and appears to have been someone's pet.

Grace's Plea to help the Animals

My daughter Grace that wanted to visit the Corridor of Cruelty and feed the animals wrote this letter that she wanted to make copies of and pass out. It is a little difficult to read (we look forward to revisiting spelling when school starts soon:). I thought it was very touching and I wanted to share it. It reads " Help us. We were thown out of a car. We are in the woods. Some of us have broken bones and the street we live on is filled with trash and even more trash from the hurricane. Bring food and water. We are counting on you. (She also drew a map of Little York Rd)

Sunday Pra"hairs"!

It is Sunday and we went to church today to say Pra"hairs" for Spirit in hopes that his follicles will keep frolicking and growing more hair from him. Here are some photos of Grace with him (if it were not for Grace who wanted to visit the Corridor that day and my kind neighbor....we would not have been blessed to find sweet Spirit).

I am Spirit...can you help me?

My name is Spirit...some kind ladies rescued me from a horrible area where people dump pets they don't want anymore. I was one of them. My owner threw me out of the car in a paper bag and left me. I knew I was in trouble but there was no one around to help me. I ate what I could find and slept in the woods waiting for someone to help me. The ladies rescued me from that sad place, took me to the vet and now I am resting comfortably in a quiet peaceful environment. The vet said that I would not have made it much longer living in the woods. I am healthy other than a skin condition that is being treated and will grow my fur back. I am 25 lbs and the vet says I will not get much larger. I love people, kids, dogs and to play, play, play. I am house-trained too. I need a home as soon as I feel better in a few weeks and have my hair back. Wish me luck! Here I am a few days after being at my foster home....I have stopped scratching and I see new hair don't you!!! At least they tell me it is there. I am playing like my old self again. Wow, this feels great. I will try and keep up the good work. Keep saying praryers for me.

Kirby the Freeway Feline finds a GREAT HOME!

This is a great story. This is Kirby. He was rescued from the underpass at Hwy 59 South and Kirby Dr. (Like his name?:) My children and I were driving under the underpass and my yougest daughter said "Mommy, a kitten" and pointed up. I thought there was no way she could have spotted a small kitten in the dark area going fairly fast. With three children saying "go back mom" over and over, I went around again and slowed under the underpass. Wow, there he was...a little gray tabby kitten gripping on to the rafters high up the slope. I quickly had to figure out how to get my car up on the curb without putting everyone in danger. I made it and hesitantly scattered up the steep slope hoping to not wake the few homeless people sleeping along the side. I got to the kitten who had its head down and seemed almost dead. He was very hot and panting and needless to say, extremely thin. He also had an injured mouth and eye...maybe from a fall or a car. Needless to say, he needed medical attention. I did not see any other kittens so I slid down and put him in the car. We went across the street for soft food and water and as you can see from one photo, he was very grateful for the food and put his paws around the can until all the food was gone. A vet visit revealed he was a kitten that was very dehydrated and would not have made it much longer in the environment he was in. Kirby stayed at our house a few days and recovered while I sent out emails trying to find him a nice family. My prayers were answered and he is living in the lap of luxury with a great family and their other cat who ironically looks just like an older version of Kirby. We were sad and happy to see him go.
